Philadelphia’s up-and-coming alt-rock quartet White Shores have recorded an insanely catchy tune in “Because Of You, I Can’t Listen To Yellowcard Anymore”, sure to be on everyone’s summer anthems playlist this year. It’s also the follow-up to their 2020 EP The Decay, which was very well received by the listeners here at Scene Daddy.

“Because Of You, I Can’t Listen To Yellowcard Anymore” (shortened as “Yellowcard”) deals with the negative and lasting effects of a relationship gone wrong, but in contrast to the subject material, the band delivers an upbeat and melodic pop-punk song you simply can’t help but sing along to. Following in the footsteps of Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco, this track also embodies a classic pop-punk spirit with it’s ridiculous song title.

White Shores’ The Decay EP was filled with defiance and angst, and that has not changed on “Yellowcard”. “When someone writes you off, you can go one of two ways. The first is to believe they were right, and the second is to go out and prove that they were wrong. ‘Yellowcard’ is about using those words as motivation,” says vocalist Will Richards. “The ironic part is I do like Yellowcard’s music but it’s difficult to listen to them now without a slight feeling of irritation. But it’s getting better. Time heals all? A certain someone was obsessed with them.”

“Yellowcard” is the accumulation of the band finding their sound and delivering their own unique flair to a genre that won’t quit. “Our first release, The Decay EP, allowed us to work together as a band for the first time and “Yellowcard” has been a year’s worth of this band rehearsing, and just getting to know each other better. We are all excited for what the future of White Shores is going to evolve into for all of us,” says drummer Caleb Weiler. Richards adds, “We’re going full force this year. We’re actively writing and recording and planning on a steady stream of releases over the coming months.”

It looks like “Yellowcard” is just the beginning of what appears to be a promising future for White Shores. Be sure to check out the official lyric video for “Yellowcard” below and keep an eye out for what’s to come soon from the band!
